Hi Mums,
I need some advice. My 18 month old is not walking yet & I'm wondering if anyone has had a late walker? Is there anything I can do to help the process along eg, Paed or Physio? She was a late crawler at 13 months & has been standing & cruising for about 2 months but she shows absolutely no interest in walking! If I try to stand her on one of her walkers she just sits down or cries & doesn't want to do it. It breaks my heart because she seems so behind compared to others her age. As a first time mum I feel like a complete failure, like I've done something wrong along the way.. She's also very whingy & cries until we pick her up. She's a real screamer so most times I can't bare to listen to it so I just pick her up. She won't just play on her own at home, she just cries & whinges all day. It's really getting me down, feel like I must be doing something wrong....anyone have any advice?? PS, at her 18 month check up the GP wasn't concerned nor had any advice but I feel like there must be something I can do to help her???

Some kids just walk later. It's not a failure. My nephew was a slow walker but once he got it, he got it. Personally walking milestones are meaningless. As long as speech and social milestones are in the right zones I wouldn't worry at all. My son was an early walker (before 12 months) it was a nightmare and socially, speech milestones were not being met and turned out later he had a severe intellectual disability.
The only thing I would probably do is start walking her, so stand behind her while she holds both her hands and encourage her to take steps. Take turns doing it so she can sometimes walk a few steps to you.
My son didn't walk until 18 months and was the same didn't crawl properly until12 months it turns out he has low muscle tone I would suggest seeing a phsyio that specializes is kids they can give you exercises to help.
