My 3 and a half year old has been toilet trained for over a year. Over the last month or so he has been having poo in his Jockeys. I have been observing his behaviour and noticed that when he needs to go he sits on the floor until the urge has passed. I have asked him to go to the toilet, I have made him sit on the toilet, I have sent him to his room, I have asked him why he doesn't want to go (he doesn't seem to understand what I'm asking - just blames his little sister lol) I don't understand what I can do or why this is happening? Tonight he had an accident from holding on all day. So my question is, has anybody been through this? Or can you see something I'm missing? any ideas or experiences! Thanks

My son did this. He was around the same age and something spooked him and refused to go on toilet / potty. We kept pushing because we knew he could but he ended up being so constipated it took a few months on medication to clear the back log. I still have no idea what caused it but found the best approach ( and I wish I'd done at the start ) was put him in nappy just for poo and tell him to ask for nappy to poo and that it was ok these things happen and don't embarrass him, after we got in a routine of him using a nappy only to poo ( offer nappy when he shows the signs like sitting down etc ) I started a rewards chart with prize box and offered him a prize instead of nappy if he went toilet he got to choose a reward from for when he pooed in toilet ( all from $2 shop like small cars, dinosaurs etc things he likes ) at first he got a prize each time then became every 2 times etc until he is now going completely normally.
My advice would be to try going back to nappys just for poos if he won't go and it seems you've tried it all to convince him, you don't want him associating it with punishment. Their small brains don't understand and obviously something's upset him more than your normal 3 yr old or he wouldve come good by now after a few punishments.
