My husband quit his job to work for a small business man and has now had to find other work as the work that was promised never came to be. Anyway we are still waiting on his group certificate so we can complete our tax return. We have everything else we need bar his. My husband has made numerous attempts to contact him to see when it will be available but so far no response. It is quite critical that we get our tax done as our bills are mounting up and we are going backwards. I have done some searching on the net and it looks like I can request his certificate from the ATO directly. My husband however does not want to do that as he doesn't want to rock the boat-his words. My question is what would you do? This man is not a friend at all to my husband with all the games he played then and is continuing to do now. Please help me!
What would you do to help your husband?

You can try lodging online with my tax through your my gov acct if he has one. Then u may not need the actual certificate because if the company has lodged the summarys to ATO it will pre fill the details for you
Legally all employers need to.get the group certificates to emplyees by the 15th july. So if he still hasnt recieved the group cert then contact the ATO, they will chase it up or start an investogation. Iam.a business owner and hate june for this reason its so stressfuk getting everything out on time.
If you have his payslips, his last payslip for the year should have all the details that the group certificate should hold. Ie how much tax you've paid and how much you have earnt. If he has any clothing allowances they will also appear on the payslip. The only other way is to try and lodge your tax return and see if anything comes up. My ex once worked for a who claimed what he was paying him was cash in hand but had been taxing him. When we asked for a group certificate it took months to receive the man ended up being investigated for fraud as he hadn't paid taxes for years. Always worth involving the ATO when someone isn't doing the right thing.
Sorry to both who replied re my hubby's payslips: unfortunately he hasn't got any of those either. I am so incredibly frustrated by this. Thanks for replying.
If the group certs are done and lodged then your tax agent can normally get that info through the portal. There is no need for you to contact anyone.
They haven't been done though.
As the above poster said, group certificates must be issued by employers by 15 July. So I would contact the ATO and ask for help.
