Wanting to start a family

First off I apologise for the long story!

My partner and I have been together for 4 years and been engaged for 1, he has had a previous relationship with kids involved. He works away and doesn't have enough holidays to have them for more than 52 days a year which is horrible for him and the children. However we want to start our own family as well in the next year or so but with a pay rise this increases child support payments dramatically to the extent that with his debt from previous relationship and my low paying job - while studying - is near impossible (I am quite a few years younger than my partner). I guess I just want others opinions on what to do.. I really want kids but I want to be financially stable to support them.

I'd wait until you've finished studying. Get at least one ball in your court. It's so much harder to finish study once a baby comes along. You always want a way to support yourself especially since his pay will always be attached to child support payments. By the time you've finished studying a bit more of the debts will be gone and things will be much much easier.
