TV viewing and movies at school.

Hi ladies, i live in north queensland and my daughter attends a public school. She is in year 1 and has told me that mon wed and fridays they watch a movie and every afternoon after lunch they watch a TV episode of hey Arthur because its hot and they need to settle down. I am pretty shocked and not impressed at all. can you guys please give me some input, is this normal for schools in the tropics?

How hot is it when they do this? They used to do this for us every now and then on a very hot day because to be honest the kids can't focus all day in extreme heat, sometimes we would be sent home early. But this certainly wasn't twice a week. I would go straight to the principal, they may not be aware the teacher is doing this.

They sprayed my kids with water bottles and put the tv on because of the heat.

See the teacher for confirmation before going in guns blazing..

It's quite normal in any state. The movies (they are not the 90 mins your imagining more like 10-15 mins) are very very short and so are the episodes of Arthur. The movies usually have some kind of educational content. I've worked in a variety of classrooms in various states. Some schools have a relax time where the kids are expected to pretend to sleep for 10 mins!

This really isn't any different to having a teacher read for 20 minutes after lunch. I went to school in cairns and it was bloody difficult getting back into class work after running round all lunch time
