Iam almost 38wks and will be having an elective csection. As hubby and myself have decided that this will be our last bundle of joy we have been looking into more perminate options for birth control. My dr suggested a tubial ligation as he would already be their while doing the section and has said it will only take an extra 5mins. BUT both my grandmothers have had this and their bodies rejected the ligation both resulting in emergency hysterectomy's (granted it was done 30 + years ago) therefore with a family history of the female body rejecting tubial ligation iam alittle worried about having it done. So we have been looking into other options such as hubby having a vasectomy. He says his alittle nervous about it but understands my hesitation in having the ligation. Especially if their is a risk to my health as we have a young family. Can anyone tell me which is better and how they came to their decision. Also if anyone lives in perth and has had a good dr they can recommend to do the snip if thats the road we end up taking. thanks

I had my tubes tied during a c-sec almost 3 years ago.. I decided at 29 I was done with having children and felt it was our best option. Because of my age docs werent sure if the surgeon on the day I had bub would do it however while prepping for surgery doc asked me and my hubby if we were sure and went ahead and did it.
I was recovering from a c-sec anyway so there was nothing more to my recovery.
In the 3 years I have had 1 scare that I may have fallen preg however it was a false alarm. I have no side effects from it my cycles are still the same other that a littke extra ovulation pain.
Good luck with the decision you make :-)
If they are there anyway that would be the easiest method. However, if there is a history of rejection I'd be talking to your doctor about whether this is likely or not (considering technology and post op care is better).
My hubby has had the snip and was also apprehensive. It's not even a thought now and it hadn't changed him in anyway.
My husband had the snip just 2 days ago he says he has no pain just uncomfortable. The reason for our choice was my gyno said the failure rate of tubal ligation is 1 in 200 which is the same as the mirena iud. So I had the iud put in. Vasectomy is 100% effective provided you use other means of contraception until the sperm count comes back as zero
I had an endometrial ablation and they did my tubes as well..it was day surgery...absolutely no pain and no more period either..best thing I could have done. Good luck
There's risks with everything unfortunately. My husband had a vasectomy about a year ago. Healed nicely. Had no trouble at all for the first six months. Now all of a sudden he gets sharp pains in his testicles - particularly one side. And usually when he's climaxing. Not painful enough not to have sex. His testicles also went up really high and he was super worried, but that seems to have cleared itself. He went back to see the Dr who did his vasectomy. He's the best in the business we were told. He assured us that in his entire 30 year career he's only ever had one guy go back in with serious trouble and he was supposedly a junkie. But when my husband went back in, he said all his pain was unrelated to the vasectomy. Gave him some anti-inflammatories and sent him on his way. I imagine that the rate of men who have problems after the snip is probably much higher than the Dr's tell you. They're trying to get paid remember. And also the amount of men that would actually go back for a problem 'down there'. Most would just soldier through.
