toddler tantrums

toddler tantrums

Hi there! great to be here on the new site! I just have a really quick question, what is the best way to deal with Toddler Tantrums?? I have had 3 children and my youngest is the ONLY one to actually throw a proper lie on the floor and stamp my feet type tantrums... I know if i growl and show frustration it only seems to make her worse.... which leaves me with just walk away and let it run its course?? when I try to talk her down she is usually so caught up in the screaming that talking does nothing.... any tips and pointers will be greatly appreciated, thanks xx

If out and about, I usually throw my daughter over my shoulder, tell her I think her behaviour is very unecessary/rediculous and keep going where I was headed with a very red face. I am terrified of walking away and leaving her, just can't bring myself to do that. Usually she will calm down and we can continue doing whatever we were doing...sometimes she wont and I end up leaving from sheer embarassment! If we're at home, I tell her to let it out and come see me when she's over carrying on.

Definitely gonna try this one for out and about, lucky for me she hasn't tried it on in public yet... Hopefully she'll keep it for home time.... Fingers crossed...

I've heard of people throwing a tantrum back at their kids. Ie jumping up and down and being silly- basically acting like them. Apparently it's shocks them into behaving. Maybe give that a go?

Definitely going to give this a go... I'll let you know if it works! Fingers crossed... Willing to try anything.... I've got her listening to my relaxation recordings at the moment to try and get rid of the bed time tantys.... Love her to bits but there is a reason she is my last lol!!

I did that a few times :)

Thanks for those tips! I'll definitely be giving both of those a go, my DD tends to get herself very worked up - to the point of making herself vomit... Willing to try anything to get this stage sorted... Hugs!

I usually went with the distraction method. A tanty would be about to start and I'd do or say something completely random that the boy had to really stop and think about. It was usually telling him I would pull his spine out through the back of his neck and leave him a big puddle of spineless boy on the floor (you know how boys like gross stuff). Not sure how you'd adapt it for a girl though.

I used to hold my breath and pass out in a tantrum. My mum told me that a doctor told her when I did that she should throw a glass of water in my face. It worked lol. The shock would snap me out of it.
One day when my son was having a hissy I was doing the dishes so flicked the water from my fingers at him. He started laughing which broke the tanty lol
