Surrogacy

Surrogacy

I am wondering if any of you have used surrogacy to have a child. I live in victoria and am looking into it as I can't have more children, after a hysterectomy.
I could not use a friend or family member. Is it even legal and what are the costs? Thanks

It is not legal here in Australia. You can not pay someone to carry a child for you. You can only pay for medical fees which here in aus is very little if not free. It's legal if someone does it that you know or someone agrees to do it out of kindness. I'm sure there's a way of finding someone and giving them money on the down low..but don't know what consequences are..

As previous poster stated, only altrustic surrogacy allowed.
The baby is the baby of the surrogate even if your eggs and sperm are used and you then adopt the baby after birth.

A friend of mine did it successfully. Both parties are required to go through counseling plus application process, plus court afterwards to adopt the baby even though the baby is in your care from day dot. Can become quite expensive. She said the final amt was around $17,000 and that included private hospital fees. If you are going to use your own eggs (she didn't) then thats even more expensive as you go thru IVF. However I've never seen such grateful and loving parents and it looks to be well worth it. There is alot of info on surrogacy aust.
