Speech delay 3 year old

Hi ladies :) just after a bit of advice/positive results.
My 3 year old daughter had a speech pathology screening and her intelligibility was rated as Poor indicating a delay in speech intelligibility. I have organised follow up appointments. Just wondering if anyone has had a positive experience and found how speech pathology helped and how many sessions you started to notice a difference? Tia :)

Within 12 months of starting speech therapy and intervention my little fella had gone from saying a few words to exploding in language. At the moment we are 16 months in and he is talking in sentences.

Progress varies from child to child. I used to work closely with speech therapists. A lot depends on wether the parents do the homework and follow through between appointments and the specific issues causing the intelligibility. I've worked with kids who at three couldn't say a single word who at 4.5 were speaking age appropriately.

My daughter was diagnose with a speexh disorder wheb she was 3yrs she could say 20 words max. She had intensive speech therapy sometimes i thought we where pushing her too much but she coped well. If you live in wa your really lucky. Wa is the only state that have public schools speasilising in speech. Look up Language Development Centre. They do max of 3 yrs schooling their can do kindy to end of yr 2 get your child tested now and apply now for kindy they helped my daughter so much. Also public system for speech is HUGE so if you can afford it go private their is not nearly as long a wait. Also dont be too worried if you dont get a diagnosis alot of speech kids dont grt daignosed with a particular issue. And 80% of kids with speech disorders are male so dont be surprised if alot of the research always referes to male. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions. You have a long journey ahead i was in your spot 4yrs ago and their is light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm after a bit of feedback as I have a feeling my son needs speech help but his father is hesitant to send him and thinks I'm being a bit neurotic, my son is three in 1 month and a lot of ppl cannot understand him. He replaces lots of words eg: stop it is fop it, mummy is bummy and Dave is bave etc, he also repeats things over and over (ie: fan on fan on fan on etc) we had his hearing tested at 2 and that was ok. sorry to take from this post I guess I'm just asking if you would get him checked out and let his father know if results are that he needs speech therapy?

I would start with taking son to gp and gp will refer you (then dad can't say no) early intervention is key (I've had 3 out of 4 boys with speech delay) I suggest getting on public health speech asap you can always cancel if you don't need it but depending where you are the wait list can be years (ask your local baby health community centre or gp) good luck x
