Single mum relocating with toddler, Dad is already in a different state

I am a working single mum with a toddler, when I left the father HE moved interstate & there are no court orders or mediation in place - he has seen our child once since he relocated a year ago.
I'm also wanting a fresh start so looking at moving to a different state but not to the same one the father moved to.. Has anyone else done this? I know he won't even attempt to stop me legally & couldnt anyway considering he's not even residing in the same state as us at the moment - the one I'm looking into is closer to his state though. Just needing info on how other mums have done an interstate move to somewhere new on their own where they didn't know anyone there. Thanks in advance
