should i get my child tested for autism spectrum?

My son is six years old and by all outward appearances a normal healthy child however in the past two years I've noticed he displays a few traits of the autism spectrum such as ocd, obsession with numbers and dates,a need for a routine, and social behaviour. I've chosen to let him be as it hasnt affected his school work where he is quite gifted or his ability to make friends even though he is more of a one on one kid. However his teacher made the comment that she had noticed some traits of aspergers and that it might affect his social activities in the future. My question is should I get him tested and where or let him be until/if it does become an issue? Thanks in advance I confess my knowledge of autism spectrum is next to nil

As a teacher and now a mum, I've always figured its better to know than not to know. I've had parents that I have voiced my concerns to who didn't want to hear it, which is their prerogative, but knowing for sure that your child is on the spectrum will mean he may get extra help at school. And if the test shows he is not, then you no longer have to wonder about it. Good luck with your decision :)

I would darl, my nephew is highly functioning Aspergers. My sister has been taking him to early intervention which has really really helped him. So worthwhile. Highly recommend you get him checked out. That way you know if he is or if he isn't. - Good Luck! X

Definately get him tested if he does in fact have it you can access funding but that is no longer an option once he turns 7.

I have two boys diagnosed. Sometimes it's the best thing I ever did. Sometimes it is the worst. Once they are diagnosed, the school will jump on the extra funding, and put your child in a box with a label. A label that he will have to carry throughout his schooling. Yes the label comes with extra assistance. IF he needs extra help then go and see soemone. If he is coping, I would let him be. In my experience a label can do more damage then good.schools are all about funding, they will holler on about how much they care etc etc. it's all bullshit. The education system is full of idiots who have nothing more than a shitty bachelor of education, that any dumb ass can get with a crap OP. So... If he is cruising along just fine, and doesn't need academic assistance, and has a few friends, then I wouldn't bother. Theres heaps of resources online, you could implement some of those things at home. You are his best teacher. No one else can help him like you can.
