My 4 year old son has just been diagnosed to Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) and to say I'm relieved is an understatment! To finally have an idea to why he reacts to the world the way he does is amazing.
I was just wondering what other mums have done to help their child and also if they improved with age or still struggle.
He is now in the process of getting Occupational Therapy as well as speech and language help and I was wondering what to expect from this. Thank you in advance!

Just be careful with a diagnosis of SPD many kids with SPD also qualify for a diagnosis of autism. Autism attracts funding SPD doesn't and SPD isn't a recognised diagnosis on the DSMV. Make sure you follow up with a developmental paediatrician to make sure autism has been definitely ruled out. I work in the industry and I've seen OTs (and I have friends who are OTs who agree) who diagnosed a child with SPD the child missed out on funding but the child qualified for a diagnosis of Autism when assessed at a later point but was entitled to funding because they were too old!
Now I'm not saying your child has autism, I'm just saying follow up because funding and early intervention makes a huge difference and you don't want to kick yourself in a few years for missing out on the help. Also an autism diagnosis is a game changer I schools for accessing extra help.
