Hello, first of all thank you for your page. I have a little question. I am returning to work in 6 weeks from maternity leave as a teacher. I was looking forward to working again as I love my job however I heard on the grape vine that in the community there are some parents not happy about me returning. I understand that it isn't personal because these parents don't know me; and it's just that they are concerned over a change of teacher upsetting their children. My question is have any other mums returned to Work and felt not wanted and how did they handle it? Looking for advice as this is my first time leaving my toddler so it will be hard enough returning to work (even though I love my job) and really want it to be positive. Thank you.

I can kind of understand as a parent, having your child change teacher so close to end of year seems annoying, however I'm sure they'll roll with it and when the children cope with it so will they. Seems more like gossip or offhand remarks than anything worth taking seriously. Don't be put off, returning is hard and emotional enough in itself butwhen the times right, youll get back into the swing easily enough . All the best!
My sons teacher is pregnant and constantly having sick days, he seems to have a substitute atleast once a week. It does not bother him at all! These parents need to get a life and realise not all of us who have kids are going to stay home for the rest of our lives.. good on you for not giving up your career. The parents will soon forget you ever even left. Good luck!
