Removal of the 'rod'

Removal of the 'rod'

I had the rod removed recently after it making me feel so depressed I contemplated 'disappearing of the face of the earth', I'm wondering if their are other mothers who felt this way also with this type of contraception? I already suffer depression which I thought was under control, but after only having the rod in for 1 month, it spiralled out of control and into a black hole. It's hard to believe something so small can make you feel so bad.
After others experiences please... Thx

I found the pill made me depressed. One day I just stopped taking it and within a month I was feeling SO much better!!!!!! I now have the injections which makes me feel funny for a couple weeks but my emotions get back to been steady after that.

Yes I was exactly the same. Had the rod put in after 2 miscarriages in a year and wow did I feel horrible. No self esteem at all (dont have much anyway) no sex drive (usually quite high) suicidal thoughts and constantly in tears.
Had it taken out after a year and was fine soon after. Fell pregnant a year later and had my tubes clamped while having a c-sec.
It is well documented that you should not have this form of contraception if you suffer depression something your doctor should have told you. I too have severe depression and was never told itcould make symptoms worse until I was having it removed.

I suffered very badly with the rod. You are not alone. I had a history of depression but that was by far the darkest I'd ever been. I recovered quickly after it was removed.

Common for it to do that! I had it and a few friends did too around a year for me. I have just got another though as I know it should be reliable for close to a year.

Same here. First 3 years were fantastic. Had it taken out and another put in and I was a mess. Have spent the last few years trying to find something that keeps me stable.

www.fpnsw.org.au Its a known side effect but not very common. Hopefully you will get back to yourself soon, now you have had it removed x

I'm hesitant to book the appointment to use the mirena because I have these concerns too. I have reacted badly to the pill in the past. Has anyone tried the copper IUD?
