refusal and re-lactation

refusal and re-lactation

Hi ladies,

I'll jump right in. My baby boy is 8.5 mths. I have been mix feeding since almost day dot - 1 top up in the evening and the occasional while being babysat. He is teething and I am taking him to our gp today to take a look at his throat, which I suspect is swollen. Last week he started biting while feeding after about 3 mins (before letdown, then only made it 1 min in, now he completely refuses. I tried more often, while hes sleepy and waiting it out - last feed 6pm, bottle 7.30pm, didnt have 2 morning feeds, wasnt looking for it but bottle at 11.30. Nothing is working. I guess im trying to come to terms with this being over :( I didnt see it coming. I know women who have taken something to stop production all together. Has anyone done this? Is there any ill effects?

On the other hand... should i shut that door just yet? I know my supply is almost gone but if theres teeth/swollen throat issues I'm wondering if there's a way back. Has anyone out there stopped for a week and taken it back up? If so how did you go about it?

Any advice would be appreciated!

My son is 8 mths and when his teething his mouth gets very sore to the point he won't accept his bottle because it hurts. Try finding a teething gel that numbs the mouth put it in a few mins before his due for a feed that way his mouth is numb when feeding. It's the only thing that will help with my son. Also keep in mind he should be having solids aswell which will make him want less milk aswell

Thanks anon, especially for the gentle reminder on solids. Happy to report that he is on 3 meals and a small snack here or there. This doesnt seem to be affecting his feeds. He's happy to have his bottle but just wont even come close to attaching. I suspect his throat and teeth started this but now hes taken a liking to a bottle instead :(
