My son is 6 and in grade 1. He recently came back from his dad's (usual fortnightly 2 night stay) quite upset.. He said that he misses me while he is at his dad's.. I asked if there was any thing else that he was upset about (school, teachers, friends, etc) but still just says that he misses me...
Now he gets clingy and teary when I drop him off at school but is absolutely fine on pick up, (usually the first few days after he comes back from his dad's). He also complains of a stomachache often and a racing heart... This has been happening over a 6 week period now and I am I am not sure what to do.. He's never been a clingy kid.... Not even once thru prep.. I have tried to talk to him and reassure him but it doesn't seem to help.. It sounds like stress... But I don't know what he is stressing about and I don't know how to help him.
Ps. His father choose to not talk to me and does not get involved in his sons life out of his normal weekend visits. He only calls once a fortnight-normally the day before he picks him up.
I know this alone is stressful for a child but has been this way years..
Any suggestions?
