Hi all,
I am 28 weeks pregnant and have just been diagnosed with PEP - a very itchy welt-like rash on my stomach. My Dr prescribed calamine lotion but it seems to be making it worse. I am just wondering if anyone else has had this, and whether there were any natural remedies, particular creams or anything else that they found worked to stop the itching, and maybe even get rid of this? Am very open to suggestions at this point as its another week until I can get back to the Dr!!

I had this with my first child 10 years ago. It was one of the most awful things I have experienced in my whole life. I scratched until I was bleeding. Bathing in pinetarsel solution gave me slight relief for very short periods. You can buy it at the chemist. I remember them giving me phenergan at the hospital and the midwife who was monitoring told me quite rudely 'I don't know why your still scratching, you shouldn't feel anything now' man I wanted to hit that woman. In the end the only way to get rid of it was to deliver the baby. It stopped within hours of giving birth. My baby had the same rash all over him for the 1st couple of weeks ( they didn't tell me that would happen). Even now when I look back at photos just after the birth I cringe at the sight of the rash all over me.
I know my response probably doesn't help you at all but I just wanted you to know that someone else out there has had this. All I can suggest is to keep ringing your midwife. Some have never heard of it because it is quite rare. Good luck
Thanks for this. I am using something called egoderm which seems to be taking the edge off, and trying to keep it aired. I think the weather being so cold is helping a lot. I still have 12 weeks to go and am hoping this will go away but it's not looking too promising!
oh dear, i had it with my first pregnancy from 37 weeks... 8 nights with no sleep, i bathed all night in pinetarsol, on night 5 was given an injection of phenergan and i managed a few hours of decent sleep. Tried herbal teas, anything google was offering. Eventually they induced me at 38 + 1. I delivered at 38+2. Unfortunately i had it for about 5-6 weeks post delivery - so it doesn't always go away straight away. We didn't find out what we were having, so after googling, i figured we were having a boy due to statistics - nope - definitely a girl. I'm now 28 weeks with number 2, and i haven't had any issues yet, fingers crossed i couldn't be that unlucky to get it twice. The doctor tried numerous things post-baby but i was breastfeeding, but eventually a chemist-made solution may have helped - or it was a coincidence! My baby did not have a rash.
