I think I am suffering from postpartum anxiety. Has anyone else suffered from this and if so, how did you overcome it? Medication? I don't mind going down the path of medication, but was just wondering if there is any medication I should stay away from. My baby is 4 months and I'm no longer breastfeeding. X

The only person who should advise people on medication is their GP. Medications react differently on different people, levels of anxiety etc. anxiety medications are very complex and range from being 'light' to 'strong'. If your not breast feeding it makes things easier on what can be prescribed. Also depending on wether you use contraceptives reliably let your GP know as some you don't want to get pregnant on.
Yes I had/have this. I was always happy, easy going person then had a baby and bam postpartum anxiety.
I went to a dr but waited for nearly a year as I just thought everyone felt like this after first baby, but I was getting angry nasty & treating my partner like crap so I knew something was up, good on you for noticing the change.
I was scared of night cos I knew I wouldn't get any sleep and I was just totally exhausted. I wouldn't go out because I was scared my son would cry in public.
Anyway the dr didn't give me meds just fobbed me off. Told me to exercise as I'm not happy with my weight gain it makes me stay inside even more. The exercising does help somewhat, if I am going good then it makes me feel better so it's maybe a option for you?
I'm still suffering but not as bad. Hope you can sort it out xx
Try talking to someone who specialises in this. We have a place here that offers a free circle of life program that goes through the anxiety and how to deal with it. Your local child health or midwife should know if you have a program like this in your area. If not ask your gp. Good luck
I had postnatal anxiety quite badly. It got to the point where I wouldn't leave the house for fear of something happening to the kids (this was after my second baby). I was getting up at night a dozen times to check on bub. I went to my GP and she put me on a very low dosage antidepressant. It was the best thing I ever did. Within a couple weeks, I felt like myself again!
