Post Surgery Blues

Post Surgery Blues

Hi IM's. Just wondering if any of you have experienced post surgery blues? I had a small keyhole surgery on Thursday, 9 months to the day of having an aneurism removed via major open surgery, from which Id already suffered anxiety, depression and post traumatic stress. Over the last month I've finally been able to get out and about and move forward from the major surgery. Today I'm finding that I'm experiencing a weight on my chest and am feeling the need to cry. It feels almost like the baby blues. Could this just be the affects of the anaesthetic wearing off?? How did you guys shake the blues? Already spoken to beyond blue and lifeline who have been fantastic. Just needing the support of other women.

Having suffered from depression myself, I often feel how your describing after a major event. Kind of like it all just really hits me what I've been through and kind of utter exhaustion. Lots of tears follow. I've never had it after surgery but I've never been through what you've been through some I'm wondering if less related to aneasthetic and more related to the fact you've been through so much and this was the one more thing that probably brought up feelings etc from your history. Allow yourself some space to cry and process everything but set a time limit on it. I like to say today I'm going to cry but tomorrow I'm going to get back to normal. I know that sounds overly simple but making the choice for me really does work.
