Piercing my daughter's ears... when is the best age?

How young can you get your daughter's ears pierced? I have a 7 week old baby girl and want to get her ears pierced, but I'm not sure when is too early or the best time?

I prefer to leave it until they can decide they want them. Also newborns are extra prone to infections etc as their immune systems aren't built yet so I'd be waiting until my child is more robust. I think around school age is about right. They are old enough to make some decisions around their appearance and have some understanding of hygiene, they also have had a chance for their immune system to strengthen. Some children's ears are extra prone to infections no matter how hygienic you are and you don't want to risk making baby too sick to eat or put them at risks of fever yet.

I have a boy.

When they can shower and look after themselves to a point is probably my best guess.

I have to agree that talking to a child about what they want and what is involved in care is important.

If I had a daughter, I would say around 7/8? My son started to show initative in tge shower then so that's important.

With babies, they are more likely to rub boogers in their eyes/ears. A fresh piercing is an open wound so it might aggrivate it and cause inflammation and infection. Studs with the sharp ends would also dig into the back of her ears hitting her scalp while in bed or when she pulld on her ears.

Older kids have a bit more understanding where as babies don't.

Goodluck with your decision hun.

Before 12 months or you will need to wait until they make the choice themselves.

I did our daughter's at 10 months.. had no issues. Did both ears at the same time and spray clean every day. She didn't play with them or anything. Still doesn't. Shes 2 and a half now and never had a problem. She loves them and often says how pretty she is with earrings.

I would've done earlier before 6 months just because she wriggled and was a bit scared of what was happening. But is your choice. You're her mother. =)
