Parents only holidays

What age do you think it's okay to leave your kids with grandparents and go on a holiday by ourselves? Our son is 4.5 years old and is cared by his grandparents 2 days a week and has lots of sleepovers. He adores his grandparents and lives being there. Hubby and I are considering going away by ourselves to a non child friendly location and leaving him with the grandparents for 1 week. I feel guilty at the thought of going without him but we really need some " us time". Would love to hear others who have done this and what age were the kids.

We just went to Hawaii and left our 3 boys aged 13,9 and 3 with their grandparents for a week.. Everyone involved had a ball :) We used Skype to talk to the kids and my in laws..

I think it's a great idea and your boy sounds well prepared for it. I do this every few years and my parents used to do it too. As kids we LOVED it. Remember that our kids benefit when we nurture our relationships :)
With modern technology FaceTime etc can make it seem like you haven't left!

I became a single mum very soon after having my daughter, and thought I had to do everything myself, I ran myself ragged. My dad actually set up my first ever away time I had from my daughter, he sent me for a week to see my best friend, I called before bedtime each night. I honestly came back a better more refreshed parent. My girl had a ball and I got to let my hair down for the first time in nearly 2 years. It reminded me that you time as an adult is important so to heck with guilt. Go enjoy, kick off your shoes have a drink and go dance with your hubby :D
