ovulation

Hi i was just wondering I have an ovulation application on my phone and it says my ovulation period is from 2nd to 7th april the main day being 5th april. I have also read that sperm can stay alive in a womens body from 3 to 5 days. Does that mean 3 to 5 days before the 2nd or the 5th. Thankyou
