Older baby sleep training

Older baby sleep training

My husband and I loved rocking our son to sleep in out arms when he was a newborn. 8 months on he expects the same treatment. Only thing is it can take 30 mins to an hour. He wrestles, rolls around and it's generally a stressful time.

I've tried to start controlled crying but my husband can't handle him crying for more than a few minutes before he picks him up.

I need some tips or advice for teaching a spirited baby independent sleep as we want to start planning baby number 2 later in the new year.

Cheers.

I had this problem with my now 3 almost 4 yr old. The best thing I tried was the camping out method, you start off sitting next to their bed/cot patting them and gradually move further away, bit easier on everyone than the cry it out method which I originally tried but was too hard. Hope this helps.

I second the camp it out method, take it bit by bit, you can incorporate it with controlled crying to, you don't have to pick one method, you can use ideas from all and do what works for you, with my now 1yr old i did a bit of both, started with rocking till bub was drowsy and then put in cot and pat, then just put in cot and pat, then just rest hand on back, and so on till you can just put bub down and walk out, there may be a bit of crying and going back in, but after a while, it works. Just don't give up to quickly, these things take time.

I also used the camping out method with my older son & am now again doing it will with almost 1yr old. Take it at a pace that suits you & bub, it may take awhile but it certainly is less stressful than listening to bub cry. Good luck.
