Need advice to get back on top of our money...

Hi all IM's
I guess I'm just looking for guidance of any advice.

My partner and I are a few weeks out of havjng our first baby and are completely overwhelmed with everything that's happening lately.
My partner lost his job, I'm only working casual and we both get a small payment from centerlink everyfortnight that is barely enough to cover our rent and our car payments.
We have one car for sale now in hopes of paying off some debt but nobody is purchasing it.
It's to the point where my parents have made our big ticket item purchases for our baby and I feel so guilty that we can't do it...

I guess my question is how do we keep our heads above when we feel like were on a sinking ship??
It's hard to be excited to meet our little one when all we do is worry about providing for her!

Thanks in advance for any help!

It is defiantly a hard position to be in. Since u r working casually u may be entitled to 18 weeks paid parental leave which should help a bit. Newborn babies really don't need much just the basics untill u get back on ur feet. Good luck with ur everything.

Basics... And a tight budget... I know it is always not that easy but try giving up a few little things :-) bulbs won't need much breast feeding is free :-) cloth nappies (i know more work but it is a saving) and a few little suits to pull you through... Try putting $5 or $10 away a week. I know it is hard but at the moment I am a newly single mumma with 3 boys and a bubba on the way we have give up and fizzy chocolate and I home bake all buiscuits :-) best of luck I hope you can get on thought xxxxx... Also don't feel bad your parents where probably more then happy to buy this item for baby

Dont feel guilty that you werent able to afford the big ticket items just thankful that someone else could help out. I was in a similar situation when I had my first baby, my partner was made redundant shorty before our baby was due and thanks to my crazy hormones I quit my job the day before I found out I was pregnant and no one wants to hire a pregnant lady. My mum helped out by buying the car seat and other items and giving them to us as gifts, I was given a second hand pram and had a baby shower where I was given everything else we needed. Buy things like Nappies and wipes when they are on special, (even if you dont need them at that time) if you can afford too because they are things you'll always need. Try not to stress, easier said than done I know but just try think positive and always ask for help if you need it!! Sending lots of love and luck, you will get through it just be strong
