My son turned 2in October and before when he was younger about 9-11 months would blab and say works like mama/tata/dada
Now he doesn't at all..Peditrician assessed and think it's austism that he might be developing..I dnt as he has been developing but really slow in other things..his eye contact is better now and his hearing I was just told by a speacialist he needs grommets..
So now I am thinking this is the cause but struggle to understand why can't he at least repeat just one word at least? Am I just going crazy and thinking too much because this is really stressing me out and really worried!
Has anyone experienced this? Am I over reacting?
His Peditrician didn't even think he need an ear specialist but I took him anyway and found out he needs grommets with liquid in both ears and noticed few things this Peditrician didn't seem so convincing so I am looking to see someone else

He does fit the autism pattern. I went through this with my own son. The grommets may improve or resolve the situation and kids with autism can improve but doesn't necessarily mean they are no longer autistic. There is lots of funding available for autism and I'd rather have an autism diagnosis and it later be removed than miss that diagnosis and miss the funding that comes with it. I'd be seeing a speech therapist at the very least but if the autism diagnosis is confirmed I'd be looking into ABA. My own son and many children I know have made huge gains with ABA.
CaN I ask what's aba?
My daughter has a speech disorder and goes to a specialist school and 80% of the kids that go their needed grommets as children and because they didn't get them in time they have delayed speech. Get the grommets done private the wait list for public is over 2 yrs. then book your son into a speech therapist to have testing done. Also if you live in wa which is the only state that has specialised schools look up the language development centre, do the testing and apply to get you child in their for kindy they do kindy to end of yr one and I would 100% recommend them. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.
I don't know if the Queensland public health system is different but we just got grommets through the public system and only had to wait 6 months.
I have twin boys who will be 3 in the new year. Just like your son they have taken their sweet time to reach important milestones. One of them has been seeing a hearing specialist every six months since he was born due to the fluid in the middle ear as well. He finally got grommets a month ago and his speech has improved drastically! Both boys have also been seeing a speech therapist for the last 8 months (which I had to push for) and she has helped as well. They are both still far from where they should be but at least I know I am doing what I can to catch them up to their peers. If you don't feel the doctors are getting it right get a second even third opinion until you are satisfied! And I found with getting a speech therapist asking didn't work, I had to tell the doctor to get me the referral. Good luck with everything and stick with your gut, it's usually right!
