Hi Mamas'
Just wondering if anyone has studied a bachelor of early education or primary education full time internally as a mature age student with young kids in tow? I am looking at doing a diploma of early childhood through tafe this year with hopes of getting back into the swing of studying and then if all goes smoothly apply for the bachelor degree at JCU next year. I am wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction of what the work load is, hours spent on campus, how hard the material is and is there any extra childcare benefit from clink avail for studying mums. My boys are both young (1 &2) And I have one year left on maternity leave ( I know i am very lucky!) and once this year is up I have to make the decision to return to part time work with the company I am emplyed with (great pay ( which we could use right now!), little hours work, odd shifts, i like the job, short term gain, no long term benefits) or to study fulltime which will eventually lead to a degree in a job i think i will love with school hours that would work better around my kids when they start heading off to school.
Any insight/ opinions is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Ok well I didn't do education but I did study a Bachelor full time from beginning (fell pregnant wk1 of entire course) and had 2 kids before I finished only went over by a couple months as I failed a subject. The material really wont be as hard as what you're afraid of... uni seems scary but it isn't really. The workload however depends. I pulled out of the post grad education diploma because it was too much for me to tackle this time round (baby #3 only 2wks old when course began and hours were too much!!). I think you should be able to manage an undergraduate diploma and best thing is often they count as most if not all the first yr of a bachelor! Best advice is to email the school of education and ask for a contact point so you can arrange to meet with someone who can give you detailed info about the course you're after... as for centrelink... go into the earlville office and ask about JET (or google) it is assistance with childcare for parent returning to work/study (which is additional to ccb/ccr) and yes you can receive study assistance if you are eligible. Hope this helps :)
Definitely possible to study with kids! Not too many people do it but if you have a will, there is most definitely a way!
im studying primary teaching. yeah it is possible if u want to do it. JET childcare is great help, espec with the pracs. i studied externally though, with teaching i find it doesnt much matter cos pracs are practical, hands on and you get to learn from & question ppl on the job.
