Moving from Aus to Nz:
Hi all just wondering if there are any people who have moved from Australia to New Zealand and may be able to offer me further insight into the differences in lifestyle, work, financial etc.
I have agreed to move from the GC, Qld with my partner and our child to Northland Nz and I'm feeling very nervous and aprehensive. I know we wont earn as much but our motivation is too be closer to his family and experience a different lifestyle. But I'm worried about finding work, increased living expenses and change of culture (city to country) Has anyone made this move who can offer reassurance? Xx

We moved from NZ to Aus so not sure how relevant this information will be. For the most part you don't notice your in a different country just father away from friends or family. It was only when we went driving out of town that we really noticed the difference. And there are a few things that you need to know before moving to any country such as local laws etc. If you are in NZ for two years you can apply for citizenship and will be eligible for most of the work and income (centrelink equivalent) after that time. Lifestyles between the two countries aren't that different.mbut here's a few things you need to know (if you don't already)
Thongs are Jandles
Eskies are chilly bins
A Vivid is a permanent marker
Lol just relax have fun and enjoy your new adventure

We did it a few years ago. We still had an Australian Mortgage and went backwards very very quickly. We absolutely loved the lifestyle change, loved the weather change, loved just having us time (hubby and I). Work contract meant nothing... i fell pregnant and my new employer terminated my contract within probation period. I then miscarried and they offered it back. Financially was disastrous. Food was expensive, power expensive. fuel extremely expensive, phone bills expensive. But best working holiday (as it turns out) ever! Lots of positives and negatives. Good luck!
