Motherhood has been my greatest journey.
It challenges every part of who I thought I would be, especially who I thought I would be as a mother. It is the hardest and most complex thing I have ever done. Being a mother is an amazing privilege and joy, but sometimes there are these moments that simultaneously leave my confidence shattered, my self esteem entangled in the 'success' of my babies and me questioning the value of my place in the world.
Motherhood is hard which ever way you choose to do it. So to the mothers who have been judged, criticized, scoffed at, glared at and belittled, I say well done! Bottle feeders, breastfeeders, SAHMs, working mums, adopted mums, foster mums, mums who only held their babies for a short while, mums who didn't get to hold them at all, mums that don't fit the expected picture of motherhood- Your journeys inspire me. You inspire me.
Stand up, stand proud, but more importantly stand together. We are all on this journey together. It doesn't matter that they don't look the same.
Whatever choices you made or were made for you, well done for still giving your best for your kids.
For what is viewed by others as perhaps just a mother, is a journey of unimaginable courage and sacrifice. A never ending challenge of reconstructing yourself through the highs and lows, continually searching for the best of you and then giving it to your children because you are their mother.
Well done mums.
