Just a rant please keep off Facebook
I am completely devastated! The week before Christmas my husband and I decided to get rid of our debts... We used our savings to pay off credit cards ect... And left enough money for presents and Christmas! Our thoughts were "we can start saving again next pay as well as pay our rent. Fast forward to now and my husband hasn't been paid from his employers (he does contract work, which pays pretty well) they won't answer their phones or reply to emails or anything! My parenting payments have been cut off because a typo at centerlink and was just told " as its the holidays we can't tell you when this problem will be fixed" I have 3.75 in my bank acct and hubby has $20. We haven't been able to pay rent and now because the money didn't come in we have what's in our bank accounts till god knows when! We were on such a high now I feel like complete shit... Fuck.

OK so both of you take a deep breath.
You need to call your real estate agent and explain the situation. Far better you raising this with them than the other way around. Pantry and fridge/freezer stocktake. Post what you have here and we can all get inventive helping you with meal ideas to stretch what you have over coming days. Garage Sales are a lot of hard work and ppl offer you peanuts. Look around your house and go through your garage/cupboards/closets and be ruthless. If you don't use it and it holds little sentimental value list it on gumtree and your local 'Buy, Swap, Sell' fb pages. One mans trash is another mans treasure.
Do stay in touch and let us all know how you are traveling. Know that we are here to hold your hand through this road bump in life. You can do it mumma!
Hugs
Thanks for being so kind :) we don't have much food left to be honest... I think the last 20 will have to go on meat... We still have lots of pasta and rice left and bread, milk, fruit and veg... We just ran out of coffee!!! Damm it... I'm going to start right now going through all our stuff!! I can't believe this is happening!
No problemo. Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans hey! Sigh...
How many in your family honey? (including ages). What general area are you located in?
Google food banks for your area. Call local churches and explain your situation, Many have food parcels for this type of situation. You can use minimal meat bulking out your evening meals with veg and lentils/beans/rice/pasta etc.
If you run out of something specific let is know as many times there are alternatives that can be substituted for the time being. Can I send you some coffee? It would be my pleasure to help out another mumma in need. God knows we have all found ourselves in tight situations before with life throwing us a curve ball despite the best planning. If you pop your email address up I will make contact with you for your postal address. Tea is my thing and I am useless without it. You need to keep a calm clear head and shouting you some coffee makes good sense to me.
xxx
What's your email address? I may need that coffee now :/
I have been in this situation a couple of times and it hurts so much more at Christmas time.
Agree with everything the above poster said and i would add positive thoughts.
"It's just a small but uncomfortable bump in the road, it won't last forever, it will pass soon and we will be back on track shortly".
Be kind to yourselves.
I couldn't ask you to do that! Thank you though. My boys are 22months and 3months... We have everything for them already, we buy formula and nappies in bulk at our weekly shop! I just have this overwhelming feeling that we are in real trouble. I can't shake it! I haven't been broke like this since I was 18. I'm scared my husbands employer has ripped us off! Hopefully they are just out of range or something...
Oh I live in Melbourne! Moonee ponds area
What about selling a bunch of stuff online? For some quick cash
Do you receive FTB? Can you apply for an advance payment? It can usually be done online and the money is in your bank within a couple of days.
It's horrible when stuff like this happens! I'm hoping it works out for you.
Yes I do normally, but the problem with centre link is some wrote on my form that I make $5000 a week!!! I have know idea where they got that figure from. So everything has been cut off! I don't have any payment until they fix it! (I just keep repeating to myself "we all make mistakes" so I don't go crazy on the phone!) We would normally be able to ask my mum or dad but they just paid for my grandmas funeral! I'm really starting to feel sorry for myself and I'm not like that! I know people have a lot more troubles then money...but...I just don't know how to make it better! I think selling what I can is the first step
Centrelink have done that to me twice now contact your local salvos they are life savers when i was back on track i re donated the giftcards they gave us! Trust me ur not the only one! U can also nimble fast loans however they you pay back extra good luck!!
I'd recommend a church for urgent food too... A good church wouldn't let families go hungry! :-)
FB message our Imperfect Mum inbox if you'd like me to transfer some emergency cash too...
....and I'm excited for when you do get paid (and hopefully centrelink - BACK PAY! YES!!) Getting rid of debts is hard - but it's a GREAT decision! Well done you two! Don't give up!
Hugs xKelly (not posted on FB as requested too...)
Wow! Thank you so much for the offer! But we borrowed grocery money so we are OK for now! Thank you x
Update time please?
We borrowed some money from my dad to get groceries! So we are OK for now... Rent still isn't paid! I can't get onto anyone from the real estate! Maybe all on holidays? Employers still haven't contacted us! So we are still in the same boat but now we have fuel and food :) so that's good at least!
