Mental Health type of help....

Hi everyone!! Long story short. When I was 16, I was sexually abused by a dentist.. I am now 30 and haven't spoken to anyone about it.. Today I went to the doctors because I suffer with a calcium deficiency so my bones break and my teeth just snap, he bought up me having to go to the dentist. I don't know what happened, but I broke down in tears and told my doctor what happened, he now wants me to see a psychologist or councilor.. Was just wondering if anyone has seen a good psyc that is really good with this kind of issue? I'm in Bacchus Marsh (no it didn't happen in Bacchus). I was also asking the doctor if he thinks if I should tell my husband about it and he said that I need to take my time to think about it because he doesn't know how my husband would take it and that I should get that opinion off the psyc. What do you lovelies think?? Thank you ?

Also, my husband and I have a great relationship, I just don't know if he is going to get upset because I didn't tell him years ago....

I think the doctor is right in holding off. Not because you should be ashamed or keep it a secret but because sonetimes telling can trigger emotions you aren't prepared for in yourself and your partner. He might not be hurt that you didn't tell him but it can be a really hard to process when someone you love so much discloses. It can also bring up memories and emotions for yourself that you might not be prepared to handle.
It was very brave to take that first step, good luck on your journey

Were you in Melbourne at the time? I only ask as your post has brought back memories of a party one night where a Dr I knew very well and was treating me made several 'moves'. (He was training to be a dentist at the time)
