hi all going to apologise for a long story and some too much information, i need some advice from people who have the same thing or have had it and what are they doing or have done, i have menorrhagia (very long menstrual cycles and very heavy bleeding), my menstrual cycles are all over the place they range from 36 days to 44 just recently and i bleed for about 10 days but now just recently 23 days and still counting as i am still having my cycle now and it is showing no signs of slowing down and it is heavy very heavy with blood clots to the extent that 2 pads and a tampon will not hold and i can't go out without feeling embarrassed for bleeding on whatever i sit on and i get dirty looks from people and it has caused me to just not go out at all.
My fiance and i have been ttc for over 18 months now (and before anyone says go back on the pill the pill is what put me in this predicament so i am definitely not going back on contraception) and after heaps of doctor appointments and being told nothing is wrong with me i finally found a great doctor who told me i had menorrhagia and sent for blood tests and a ultrasound to see if i have fibroids and a referral to a gyno he also told me i don't have to see him i just have to wait to see the gyno so now i am on the waiting list to see one but it is a waiting game and i am getting very impatient. i ended up at the hospital the other night because of my bleeding it was very heavy and i was getting faint and very light headed so all that happened was another letter to the gyno and a script for tranxemic acid and told to buy iron supplements as i am now anemic, i don't know what to do as i am scared something might be wrong or i just don't know anymore, i am going to ring my doctor tomorrow and see if i can see him but because he is a great doctor he is very popular and tends to be booked out for weeks so it most likely wont be until January next year until i get seen by him. please help me i don't know what i should do i am at a loss of what to do now.}

Take your iron tablets as they will keep you healthy while you wait for the gyno appointment. Ring around a bunch of gynos to see if you can get in to see one sooner (if your on the public wait list forget it, go private and pay, but some bulk bill). You can then go back to the GP for a referral to the faster gyno. Unfortunately there is probably nothing your GP can do other than refer you on, it's just a waiting game. Unfortunately it's a bad time of year to get into see specialists as most close down for Christmas.
PS if EMergency department thought it was urgent they would have admitted you and got a gyno to see you in hospital.
I pretty much had the same thing. The tranexamic acid is great. Slows everything down. For me they take about 8-12 hours after starting but then down to a mid-light flow for 7 days, this is from going through maternity pads in 45 minutes and going for about 10 days
