Hi Sisterhood. Some background information.
I recently become a single mother of a 5 year old and 18 weeks pregnant. My question is in relation to my employment. An trying to find some information on my rights , maternity leave etc. My biggest question is I have been working as a gnat and gaming attendent for about 5 month now and then recieced a job offer in June for a new centre that opened as a full time kinder teacher of course I jumped at the opportunity and took the job. After many delays though I found out just after I accepted the job I was pregnant I discussed this with my employer before I signed my contract and they were happy to keep me on. Thank the Lord. However we only finally started 3 weeks ago and had to sign a new contract. Now at 18 weeks with a high risk pregnancy I've began to think about when I may need to give notice for leave. I've continued to work both jobs because I know you need to work 12 months for paid maternity leave something I'm not obviously eligable however I was Told if I work 10 months straight centerlink may pay up to18 weeeks min wage which I may squeeze with my bar job. However I'm working hard and am aware I have a 3 month probation so making sure give no reason for dismissal. If they keep me on being a new centre do I have any rights to unpaid leave etc? I'm not sure how you accumulate personal leave and holidays but due late Dec / Jan 3rd so if I work as far as I can will give max 6 months full time. Not sure where to go to find out rights etc options would like to return to my job if I can as small town and has taken 5 years to secure full time employment . Pregnancy was not planned after 5 losses was a huge surprise but definitely a welcome gift. From Victoria , Aus.
