Hi IM's
I'm wanting to buy a new laptop under $1000. I use it for email, word documents, photo storage and editing and storage:management for phones, iPad etc.
Any recommendations please?

I love my HP, it's 2 years old now and hasn't missed a beat. Mid range machine with high specs and fantastic value for money. I run Photoshop on mine with no issues.
I work in IT so I hope this helps:
* for that type of use you could get any of the well known brands (HP, IBM, lenovo, Toshiba, Dell etc)
* do some research or ask a salesman what the latest and best chip is
* since you want the best bang for your buck try to get the best chip and most RAM you can, you'll be able to get away with a smaller hard drive of say 200gb
* make sure you get an external hard drive and that someone computer savvy shows you how to back up your data to it, 1tb ought to suffice
* computers all come with windows 8 now but not with Office etc so if you want your computer to be legal and supported you'll need to pay for Office on top of the laptop
*If you can keep an eye on sales you'll likely get a better computer for your $$$
