Hi IM's! I am 35 weeks pregnant and I was told today that my iron levels are borderline. My doctor suggested that I get an iron infusion through a drip. He said because I will lose a lot of blood after pregnancy it will help me recover and possibly not go through post natal depression. They say pregnant woman have come in and say there haven't been any complications but I am a little hesitant for some reason. My question is, has anyone had it done? If so, did u have any complications? TIA x

Personally I would go with a doctors recommendation. If you are uncertain get another medical opinion.
^^ This. When it comes down to important medical decisions like this, where low iron levels can have serious complications, you should seek second, third and more medical opinions if need be.
I was recommended to have a iron infusion I ask the dr to
Give me 2 weeks to get on top of that and then if it was still low then I would have the infusion. Some things to remember are that it takes up to 3 weeks to start working, your body can go into shock aswell. I never ended up getting the infusion instead eat heaps and heaps of green veggies that boosted my iron broccoli and asparagus are really good for iron.
You could take iron supplement like ferrograd c ( MUCH higher dose than regular iron tabs) and See if you can get on top of it before then test again with another blood test. Also get more info on an infusion, this could make you more Comfortable in making a decision.
I know that you do need yoUr iron levels up, for strength during labour and foe coping with the blood loss loss and preventing bleeds and complications. It's important and there may be a reason specific to you that your Dr recommended an infusion over supplements. Ask her? And ask a second professionals opinion? Knowledge is power in decision making.
