Hi, I am pregnant and I have just been told I have hypothyroidism and have started taking the medication. My level was 8.9 when Iv been told it should be under 2.5 in the first trimester. Could anyone share their experiences ? I'm worried about my babies brain development.

Hi I have hypothyroidism which was only detected half way through my first pregnancy my ths level was 120 when the drs found out and started me on thyroxine. It took awhile for it to work and get within the right range, my baby was not effected in anyway he is now a clever 2 year old and I have a healthy 4 month old as well. I wouldn't worry in sure ur baby will be fine.
I am on thyroxine as I do not have a thyroid with both my pregnancies I experienced Hypothyroidism throughout and had to constantly up my dosages of thyroxine. None of this had any effect on either of my children. I now have a very healthy 2.5 year old and a beautiful 6 month old. I'm sure you will be fine and they will closely monitor your levels throughout the rest of your pregnancy! Good luck x
I had hypothyroidism with both my pregnancies (detected at 6 weeks for both). My thyroid level when not pregnant is normal strangely enough. I was on medication (thyroxine) throughout both pregnancies and my babies have had no issues. You will probably be requested to get regular blood tests to monitor your thyroid level and you may be referred to a specialist in this field who will also keep track of your levels.
Wishing you all the best, try not to worry, your baby will be fine xx
