im q: had a membranes sweep done yesterday nd the midwife said im 2 cm dialted, how long do you guys recon till i have the baby? or how long did you wait after being 2 cm dialated to go into labour im over 38 weeks and midwife said my body is well and truly ready ?

I started having irregular contractions on a Thursday and had a stretch and sweep the next morning (40+7). I was 2-3cm dilated.
My contractions became more regular after the sweep and I went into hospital on the Saturday night about 7pm. I was 3-4cm when I got to hospital. The midwife did another sweep and within a couple hours I was 5cm dilated and they broke my waters. I didn't have my baby until 4.56am on the Sunday (40+9) So took a while for my body to prepare itself!
Basically everybody is different, they say usually say first labours are quite long. You still have 2 weeks till due date so try not to stress if your baby doesn't come in the next few days. Your body spends weeks preparing for the birth and a s&s doesn't always help. The longer baby is in, the better and you'll get more sleep too haha! Good luck
I was 2.5cm dilated from 37 weeks. Had 2 S&S done but still didn't go into labour until 40 weeks. It will happen when baby is ready.
I had a s&s done at 39wks being 3cm dilated.
Had loads of gunk and stuff come out but no change until 3 and a half days later when my waters burst spontaneously and after a freakin intense 5hrs was holding my baby who was in a rush to meet us :-)
Please not that the gunk that came out was not waters nor plug (had it checked at hospital daily).

As annoying as this response will be... babies will come in their own time. Some women are partly dilated with a fully engaged baby for days or weeks before true labour starts. Others will have no pre labour signs one day, and holding their baby the next. Good luck... perhaps a Christmas or New Years baby for you :)
A stretch and sweep can bring on labour, but it might not too.
I was 39 weeks, really bad back and over it. I was given a s&s. She said she was really rough with me to do her best to bring me on as she wasn't allowed to induce me, but could tell I was in immense pain and bubs was ready.
I still had to wait til 40 weeks to be induced. All three kids were induced at 40 weeks,
Some people's bodies don't make the hormone to bring on labour naturally. If your 2cm they will induce by breaking the waters, that should put you in immediate labour.

I was 41weeks had a membranes sweep. Was 1cm diarised. I had baby in my arms 3 hrs later. Everyone is different and it was my 3rd.

Midwife said the same at 38 weeks. I had a cervix sweep twice once at 38 wks and another at 40 wks and went into labour at exactly 41 wks.
