I have to look after me, so I can look after my baby. If I'm not mentally well it is really hard for me to be there for my son. I want my son to be proud of me, and I want to be proud of me, so I make time for me. The things that make me feel better include a bit of exercise (walking, dancing in the lounge room), grooming (keeping my eyebrows under control, doing an in home colour), reading, taking a bath. None of those things take a lot of time, I'm a sole parent looking after a disabled son, so it's not like I have money to throw around. Little things make such a difference and all ad up. I have to make the time though and not allow things to intrude. So if I'm taking a bath, there are no interruptions unless there is an actual medical emergency.I think it's really important to teach kids that they need to look after us too, because being part of a family is looking after each other, and your kids can look after you by allowing you space to recharge and work on yourself.
