How do I get my 1 year old to sleep?

Hi IMS this is the first time I've asked a question. My beautiful 1 year old doesn't sleep! My husband and I have been struggling with him since he was 5-6 months old and it's now wearing extremely thin on us both. We have had him checked to rule out medical issues / reflux (although he has had it since he was born I have been told he has grown out of it and losec doesn't seem to help him sleep better). Basiclly he consistently wakes up every 2 hours. All night every single night. We have tried everything over the past 7-8 months including 3 trips to tressilian, melatonin, phernergan (under doctors advice) and none of these have been any help. He will sleep in the morning and has no issues napping in the day however I've tried wearing him out, no afternoon nap, feeding him solids til he will explode to keep him full but nothing seems to work. It's at the point where I am so depressed. I feel like all my life revolves around is trying to get him to sleep. I'm exhausted. My husband and I sleep separately and do "shift work" to make sure we atkeast get some sleep. Thank god we have a good friendship and are managing to cope but I miss spending time with him. We don't even get half an hour to talk on the couch/snuggle or even contemplate being intimate. I really want to be positive but I just can't see any light at the end of this tunnel :( I'm open to suggestions of things that helped. He has night light, teddy, sound machine. I've tried crying it out although it's mental torture but that also hasn't worked and I noticed the next day he was extra clingy

I'm sorry your going through this, I've been there and it's hell :-(
It seems
You've tried all I was going to suggest, except if he has reflux have you tried raising the cot top? You can do this by placing a small book under each top end or a few folded towels under the mattress. Sleeping raised helps with reflux just depends if he is a keep still sleeper or all over

Another thought is both my kids had reflux and although losec is the strongest it didn't help where as the lesser medication Zantac did. I know that's weird you'd think the stronger the better but Zantac worked a lot better

Last thought have you tried leaving a radio on in his room at night, with the night light on. Is it possible he won't settle due to the dark and lack of noise?

Good luck mum and dad, I hope you find a way all get sleep.

Lack of sleep suxs arse bigtime. Know just how you feel. Im pretty sure this may get posted on the page but try cosleeping. As a mum I wasnt going to use a dummy #1 used one for the 1st 8mths until he decided it wouldnt reach the sore areas with his teething. #2 well in the womb she kept me up from midnight to 4.30 and later. Or should I say early lol. And this habit has continued since birth she is now 5 weeks old. I have a bassinet in my room due to not wanting lil ones to room share. She refuses the bassinet so is between us in a portable cosleeper. Its not ideal by any means and not what I wanted but Im getting sleep. For most of the night she stays in it but by the 2 or 4am feed she ends up nestled into me. By 7am #1 comes in and watches youtube while I get an extra hour. My biggest concern is sids or squashing her but sleep wins. Worth a try. Im not looking forward to the move to own room as I guess that will be a whole new world of pain. Goodluck hope you find some relief. Oh and no theres no intamacy in my bed lol hasnt been since I got preggers lol.
