my son 3.5 is starting to notice skin colours.. His father is african american and isn't in our lives very much and myself and my partner are both Caucasian. He has met his father and his fathers side of the family a few times and pointed out they were black and he was brown like them which i think is more then normal, growing up where we live there isn't much verity of skin colours.. but lately he is pointing it out even in the park ' look mummy that girl is white like you I'm not white I'm black' and I'm not really sure what to say to him. he has also asked why am i not brown or black like him and why isn't he white like me and my partner. honestly my biggest fear is for him to feel miss placed or different but at the same time he is only 3 so i can't really sit him down and explain the world and its workings.. just after some advice and if anyone else has gone through this how they answered their child....

Just a simple 'everyone is born different, some have white skin, some have brown. Some have blue eyes, others have green eyes. Some people have no hair and others have lots of hair, some people are tall and some people are short. Everyone is different. When he's older I'm sure you can explain in more detail.
