housing issue

Hey ladies

I dont know if this is a question or a rant . Iam a single mum with a 4year old son who has special needs (autism and global developmental delay) on the 8th of April my mum died me and my son lived with her so I could help her with daily things as she had a skin problem that made her daliy life hard when she died we informed housing commission and i was told to go and apply for the house so i did and got a six month lease with them. Today I got a phone call from someone from nsw housing that I will not be recognized as a tenet and that i will have to move and rent a privately. When i signed the 6 month lease to the house iam in now i was told that if i keep up to date with rent keep the yards maintained and keep the house clean then they will extended my lease my son's ot said that that she doesn't think that my son wont be able to handle a move i have no idea what to do or what iam going to do i just feel like crying and scream from the top of my lungs as i can't afford to rent privately has anyone been in this position before

The housing commission in your area should have a tenants association I would contact them as well as contact your local member of parliament. I would also re contact the housing commission. Sometimes these things are stupid mistakes and misunderstandings that can be sorted out. If you have a signed lease they can not ask you to leave until the lease is up unless you broke the lease agreement and then there is a lengthy process they need to go through. Check you have signed a lease and returned it. You will get rent assistance from centrelink if you have to rent privately (which you don't get if your in government housing). Also check out the rules for government housing as states differ, because I care for my son with disabilities that made us a faster qualifier for a home in my state (I still waited almost three years and lived in a one bedroom unit all that time). Mostly don't panic. You can also contact your tenants/rental tribunal in your state for assistance.
