Hip Dysplasia

Hip Dysplasia

My 18 month old daughter is having open surgery on Friday 31st of October to reshape her pelvis and hip sockets to correct her hip dysplasia which was diagnosed only two months ago. She will be in a Spica cast for 3 months and then in a Rhino brace for 4-6 months. I am so nervous. The hospital staff I have spoken to have given me very little information on the procedure or caring for her post-surgery.
I understand that the Occupational Therapist will give me some advice regarding how to manage with nappies and transport on Friday but I would really love to hear from any mums who have been through this with their children (particularly those who's children had both hips done at the same time) on how you coped? What were your needs? What did you find worked best for you? How did your other children cope (my son is 3 years old)? What kind of support did you need in the first weeks (My husband works 60 hour weeks and I work and study from home)?

I've not been through this with my child but can give advice on what extra support you will need at home after caring for someone who had a different surgery. For the study make sure the drs write a drs certificate so you can get extensions etc. honestly I'd get extensions for everything as your boy is likely to need a lot of extra time!
I'd probably get a lot if meals pre cooked now so your really organised. Switch to home internet shopping. If you could, organise a friend or family member to pop in while your adjusting.
