Glucose Blood Test

Glucose Blood Test

Hi Mum, need some other mums thoughts. I went to have that glucose drink and blood test this morning. (28weeks)
I did the drink and after the hour they couldn't get any vains. They tried three times (I'm not a needles person so this was awful for me) They said it flashed but just couldn't get any blood.
I hate the thought of drinking that stuff again. They suggest I try again Thursday. However I think I don't want to.
Has anyone not had the test? Is it essential? This is my second pregnancy and I was fine for first with this tests outcome.
Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Untreated gestational diabetes can be really damaging. If you're worried, try a different pathology place or request someone different. Some staff are just better than others, practice I guess. Definitely do it though. Your health and that of your baby is worth the discomfort.

I would definately have the test done again! I had no probs with bub #1 and #2 but had gestational diabetes with #3 and it can cause life threatening problems to your baby. Worth the unpleasantness I say!

Unfortunately it would be silly not to do it. The risks involved with Gestational Diabetes to both mother and baby far outweigh discomfort of having to drink the glucose drink and get a blood test. I thoroughly recommend going back when they asked you to. I hope they get the vein next time :)

Sorry you had a rough time of it but if I was you I would do it again. Just to be on the safe side not only for bub but for you too

Hi all! Thanks for you all your support, thoughts and experiences. (On here and on the FB link)
I've now come down from the sugar high I was on and feeling alittle better. (Don't know if anyone else feels like they are crashing afterwards. I've never experienced that extreme high and fall before these glucose tests)
I was just upset about going through that when going once is a big deal.
Ill absolutely do it again (not that I want to) as I'd never put my babies in any risk. I will be going somewhere different. I have hard veins this pregnancy for some reason. I was just overcome with emotions earlier so thanks again for your help. It really makes a difference reading others experiences. Xoxo

It is essential and it sucks! BUT are you aware although you may need to fast for the test, they encourage you to drink a crap load of water before the test, makes it easier. I have dodgy veins too (pregnant or not pregnant) and it can be ages before they find a vein.
Best of luck with the test! And dont stress about the needles, focus on something else...like anything written on the walls, or any plans you have after the test....it makes its easier...and if you tell them you arent a fan of needles it helps too
