Hi sisters
Does anyone have any experience with gastric sleeve surgery? I have had issues with my weight for over 20years and I have tried everything & I mean everything to lose weight and get healthy, but I just CAN. NOT. DO. IT. I feel like such a failure. I feel like this could be my only hope at being healthy & happy.
I had a gastric band fitted 7 years ago, but it failed twice & was revised both times. I ended up in surgery again 7months pregnant with my twins with the band tubing tangled around my uterus. Luckily it was removed successfully & I went on to have 2 happy, healthy babies.
I hate looking in a mirror & I hate who I am & what I've become. I am topping the scales again at 100kg & I feel so desperately unhealthy & unhappy. I try to walk 3 times a week but have a very demanding full time shift work job & 3 children under 3. We don't eat take aways, but I find with stress I make bad choices & have zero portion control.
I've tried weight watchers, clean eating, lose baby weight, duromine tablets, hypnotherapy-everything works for a while but I fail to stick at things.
I feel having my stomach cut in half is the only way to stop me eating my way to oblivion.
Please help ?

Hubby had the sleeve done about 18 months ago. He was 150kg when he had the surgery and is now approx 85kg. It took a lot of adjustment at first but he now manages a small meal (piece of fish and small bit of potato). And he thinks it's the best decision he ever made.
Losing weight is a very hard thing to do. This is a tough decision and I really commend The decision you are making and how tough it must be. Best of luck.
I almost did, but the doctor said one thing to me, I could still ruin it and end up not loosing any weight if I didn't cook the right foods. Yes I'd get sick but if i didn't make the long term changes and didn't stop falling off the wagon I would ruin it.
I realised it wasn't going to be the answer for me. I had to develop long term habits. I had to make one dietary change at a time and make that a long term habit before I made another change. So over the long term those little changes added up to a drop in 3 dress sizes and going.
I found doing diets and trying to make drastic changes all at once never worked for me because they were too big of a sudden change to fit into my life. They were a huge amount of work and so then I would stumble and give up. Where as that hasn't happened with the habit change principle. Its a long term change for the rest of my live where I don't feel deprived and like binge eating, hiding foods in shame or ripping someones head off because I haven't had a fix.
Anyway that is just the realisation I came to regarding my food issues etc.
I totally understand where you are coming from. I am booked in for surgery in Nov. There are plenty of Facebook groups for sleevers. The band seems to be unsuccessful in a lot of people. The sleeve is great for portion control. In my house we dont eat a lot of crap food. I eat small during the he day but come night time i am starving and over eat. I have tried smaller plates and all the diets under the sun. Alcohol has been a big factor with keeping weight on. I love running but my weight has made this hard and self confidence has taken a major toll.
I have lost 4kgs leading up to preop. I feel like my body is already changing and so is my choices in food. I am now excited to take on the sleeve as i know this time I wont give up and have the chance to overeat. I have met a lot of sleevers and none of them say it was a bad thing. All even the ones who had surgery issues say they will do it in a heartbeat. You can access your superannuation to pay for the sleeve. With full private health insurance you can get done for about 4.5k out of pocket or super pays for the rest. Without private health it can be very very expensive.
Also you tube has great videos on after op and down the rract results of people. It wont be easy as it is a tool to help you. The rest is up to the healthy choices you make to put in ur mouth ? Good luck
Yes, I have had it done! And it was the best decisions I've ever made! November last year the day of my surgery I was 116 kgs today I'm 75.9kgs (so just over 40 kgs weight loss) and I have never felt better in my life!
My problem was self control with portion control! I made relatively good choices most of the time but ate way to much food. This has been a great tool to help me control that!
I now find I find it easier to exercise as I don't have so much weight to drag around! I was so over weight before that I'd run 50 meters and be stuffed! and frankly give up! Now I'm running 2.5 ks in 15 minutes! Once apon a time I'd have slapped you if you had of told me I'd be doing that and actually enjoying it lol
I feel now I'd like to focus on toning certain areas like my arms and tummy! Soon working on that!
That first two weeks after surgery are no walk in the park! But honestly I did not find it half as bad as I anticipated!
Eat slower and small amounts until you feel comfortable with what you stomach can handle! The key and hardest part is getting enough water for the day!
I'm posting this anonymous as I well awair so people can't keep their nasty comments to them selves! Booth on social media and so people I call friends!
I made my choice to do it and only told the people who meant the most to me! I did not feel the need to justify my self to others!
Good luck with you choice:)
