Just after a little advice, my son (4.5) is staring school next year, i dont think he will have any trouble with this as hes very social and smart (knows all his letters and numbers can type his name etc) but when i put a pencil in his hand he has very little control, cannot do much more.than a scribble ive seen most of the kids his age writing their name or colouring in pretty well between the lines. If i try to guide him he loses it and gets very emotional and says hes no good and he can only scribble ive tried making it fun with lots of encouragement and have never said a negative word towards him for it but hes getting very self consious and wont try any more. Ive gotten advice from his new teacher to try other activities that will help his fine motor skills like putting pegs on the line or counting single grains of rice but does anyone have any other ideas?? Would really like to make this a fun learning experience with the goal of him writing his name by the time he starts school, sorry for the novel, thanks in advance

It wouldn't hurt to get an assessment from an OT or physio. They also may recommend a special pencil grip.
Relax& dont push him. He will learn all of those things at school & get any support he needs. And honestly no, most kids dont start school being able to colour between the lines & write their name, they are taught to do it over the kindy year.
You can say to him," youre not allowed to scribble in school" its one of the rules. It will be much more exciting for him once he's learning it in school, he will bring it home on his own. So for now let him go nuts scribbling at home, this time at home before school is not for academic learning its for happiness, discovery, building their inner self, social self & just simply doing kids things they get joy from.
