Hi all, unfortunately my husbands brother has gotten himself into the drug scene and has been put into jail for the next few years. We are so angry and disgusted with his actions but our biggest concern is how do we explain this to the kids? We have a 5 year old who I need to explain this to and a 2 year old who in time will also need an explanation. Any suggestions or has anyone been in this situation before?

I would tell them the truth but just keep it age appropriate for example uncle has been put in jail because he has been bad and broken the law. Kids are pretty forgiving and resilient
Why can't you just say "he's away getting help because he made a very wrong decision". I don't agree with telling a five year old grown up facts which could upset them worse. Had that situation in our family and when the nephew returned, he was still welcomed by the other kids.
