Epidural question

Epidural question

Hi IM's! I am getting induced in a couple of weeks and have a choice to get the epidural as I am going to a private hospital. I was wondering what are people experiences with it? Did it hurt when they injected it? My OB wants to give me to me before I even have contractions. Has anyone had that done? Did u have any complications afterwards? Anything you can tell me about it would be great! Appreciate ur help ?

Hi

Good luck with baby, exciting times

I have had an epidural with both my kids. To be honest I never felt them putting the needle in or injecting I was just desperate for relief from contractions lol. They did it between contractions and hardest bit was sitting still for it to be done it relief was great after it was. No complications or problems afterwards

I had epidural in a public hospital. Honestly if your in labour you are more focused on the painful contractions and a little tiny needle seems like nothing

I am so glad I had that needle :)

I didn't even feel it compared to a painful posterior labour I remember thanking anaesthetist profusely for it lol. Funny sensation not being able to feel legs for ages but I would definitely get it again if needed. They let me get one at 10cm dilated too.

I didn't have an epidural but instead a spinal block in prep for a hasty emergency Caesar. I also don't have any memory of feeling the needle. After 7.5hrs of drug fee induced labour with really strong contractions I wasn't even worried about a needle! I also agree with the suggestion that the hardest part was staying still to let them give the needle!

I've had 3 epidurals. My first was with a natural labour I hated that I couldn't walk around and move as much as I wanted to but my labour progressed very quickly and I went from being 1-2cms at 1:30 pm to being 10cm at 5:45 with my boy being born at 6:06 pm my epidural was because of my blood pressure. The next two were for C-sections I didn't feel either of them going in and it was awesome being awake when my 2 cherubs came into the world I wouldn't have done them any other way.

For my 2nd I had to be induced, and my advice is GET THE EPIDURAL. Being induced is not like a spontaneous delivery - the midwife I had said approx 90% of induced labours get the epidural because of the pain. It was hard getting the needle between contractions that had me shaking and unable to cope.

I could still feel everything with the epidural. The pain lessened but it didn't take away everything and I could still move my legs, maybe they didn't put mine in properly reading the other responses it sounds like other women were completely numb from the waist down

I wasn't completely numb either. It depends how you react to pain meds. My sister is basically knocked out by any pain meds where as I tolerate them a lot better. I still had some pain but not anywhere near what I was in before the epidural.

I had a horrible experience when I had it with my first child. It took them 4 attempts to get it in and on one of the attempts the comment heard was ohh I just it popped your spinal fluid 3 years since I have done that!! The once in they decided to leave me with slight feeling in my legs to ensure that no lasting damage had been done and I could still feel my legs! So after that experience I did not have one with my second child!

I went private and I was induced and no way were the nurses jus gonna give me an epidural!! They prefer you try labor yourself!! I did and after 32 hours asked for an epidural.. by the complications arose all fine in end but the epidural slowed everything down which was lucky as that is what I needed unknownst to everone. I was @&#&d off as I had asked a few times and told doc be around in am it was aweful exp. In fact 1 nurse said to me at start of contractions.! Dont even think about asking me for an epidural anytime soon unreal but if your doc says ao good but you will miss out on the feelings unless u have birthed before id see how you go. I found having epidural more painful than contractions !!
