Elective c-section after emergency... What to expect?

Argh!!! Having a little freak out now!! Got all my prep stuff for my c-section which is booked for next Monday, and reading through it all I am now sending myself into panic mode. I had an emergency one with my first so it was all a massive blur and I can't really remember much about it all, so I guess I'm just after some calm reassuring words from mums who have had an elective after an emergency, and I guess what should I expect?? Trying to stay calm but not doing a very good job.

I have had 3 caesareans. 2 emergency, one elective. Trust me on this, you will be fine. You have done this before, you know what to expect. The recovery time after an elective caesarean is quicker than an emergency as well. Try not to panic, I know it's easier said than done. All the best for Monday - how exciting.

I had an emergency c section with my first and an elective with my second. When people ask me about te experiences of the two, there is no comparison! The elective one was calm and I was aware of everything going on. The biggest thing I was frightened of was getting the spinal when I wasn't in any pain to begin with but even that didn't hurt as much as I thought it would. I would actually go as far to say that I was able to enjoy the experience rather than being fearful that something was going wrong. Because it is something that is planned you are also able to make sure that you get things how you want them. Eg I was able to request this time that the sheet be removed as my baby was being born so I could see him coming out. I hope things go as smoothly for you. You will be fine, wishing you the best of luck with your new little addition xxxx

I had an elective ceaser after an emergency ceaser and all I can say it was amazing! There was no stress, and no labour! It feels quite a bit like your cheating the whole childbirth! But coming from such a really traumatic birth from my first child which ended in an emergency ceaser it was such a lovely experience! So please don't stress about it just think it won't be anything like your first experience and recovery seems easier and less painful 2nd time around good luck :)

I've had two emergency sections and one elective, the elective was so much calmer and stress free. Baby was born a lot happier straight away and I also found with elective I healed and my body recovered a lot faster I think this was because I didn't have the stress of emergency sections like the first two, all the best

Just think of your baby coming out into a nice calm environment out of a much calmer mummy... and think of the morphine, the sweet sweet morphine :)

I have had 2 elective c-sections after an emergency and hands down the elective was a thousand times better! With the emergency I hardly remember my daughter being born because I was in so much shock! The elective ones, I not only remember my little ones being born but I also had the strength to hold them. My recovery was so much better and I remember bonding more quickly. In fact my elective section with my second child was such a positive experience, I went back for a third within 2 years, where as due to the trauma of the emergency c-section with the first it took me 8 years to get up enough courage to have another baby. Good luck, you will be fine, enjoy the experience. I had my baby 9 weeks ago and the surgery is already a distant memory :)
