Can you expand on this question to give it context. You always get the best answer when people understand where you're coming from.
I think you have to factor a lot of things in when choosing a school for your child. Location and curriculum are very important to me. If there was an excellent public school in my area with a great curriculum then my kids would go there. If it was a catholic school, the same rule applies.
It's hard to say without some extra context but I myself would try to find a balance. Overall though I would have to say probably heart, in that the environment and people your child will be surrounded by are actually more important to their growth than how much expensive equipment the school has, or how they structure the curriculum. You and your child need to feel comfortable and happy with the school. If you can find great staff that make your child feel at home the learning will most certainly happen. We chose the small local state school over the fancy private school because the staff at the state school were amazing. Our daughter is loving school and learning so much, even though the school doesn't have the millions of dollars of facilities and equipment the private school boasts about.
Head. Both my children went to expensive private schools, they were average students, I think they would have thrived just as well in public schools, if your child is a high achiever they will achieve to their potential at any school.
Heart...we have used quite a few schools over the years as our children range in age from baby to 20, and the current school (the only independent [less expensive private] school we have used) is the best by far. My head knows we can't afford the fees, but my heart knows that you only get one shot at education, and the difference is too big to ignore. The staff know and care about every family, and they treat everyone with respect.
