Drowning in sh*t toys! help ?

Getting toys my kids don't even play with...any tips? I have 3 boys and people just seem to assume that boys just need another car or superhero. Gifts from friends and our occasional cave-ins to demands mean our house is full of toys our kids aren't even interested in and cleaning up is a pain in the arse. Is it just me? Or is anyone else's house like this? Any ideas?

Re-gift or donate!

subtle fb posts and photos may help with a side order of sarcasm.

I always ask what they would prefer as gifts n my limit is around $20 max. So it is normally a book or something.
I always hint nicely too what would be best suited.
I find it more offensive if someone doesn't tell me n then regifts or donates or sells it.
honesty is the best real friends would prefer that.

For us, we box them up and rotate plastic boxes in the shed. Keeps them 'new' and exciting for the kids, but they usually only ever play with it when other kids come over...

Oh my kids are the same, my 6 yr old is a horder aswell and refuses to throw broken toys away or donate toys she doesn't play with. I try and do a huge clean out every 6 mths while their out or at school then donate the things that still work and bin or recycle the broken crap. My pet hate is puzzles always seem to loose one piece :(

New stuff that they won't use - put away for this years Kmart wishing tree. Used but good quality to organisations, maybe a womens shelter for kids that have had to leave their toys behind? Used and working to Lifeline and Vinnies. Then you've just got the broken ones for the wheelie bin. For the toys they keep, as has already been suggested use tubs to sort into and store. Maybe colour code your tubs so each child has a different colour for their particular toys and just one bigger toy box for shared items.
