Doing my head in!

My 4 month old baby has always been a terrible sleeper. Only when he hit 3 months could put him down for day sleep without him screaming for an hour in process. He will only sleep for half hour naps, sometimes an hour if I'm lucky and only while being cuddled. He has never slept through the night, still wakes every 2-3 hours or more.

Now at 4 months he is regressing. He will no longer go down for a day sleep (has to be cuddled). And now at night is waking more and is starting to refuse to be put back into his bed after waking. I still do when he is asleep, but it's not long before the crying starts yet again. I can't count the amount of times I cuddled/ nursed to sleep between 2 and 4am this morning. I am at a point where can't remember getting up to him, but wake with him in my arms.

He is a very clingy demanding baby generally. He cries more often than not when I put him down to play on the floor. I have lots friends with babies and none their bubs are like this and it can really get the better of me especially when we have had a bad night (a good night is him only waking 2 or 3 times).

Has anyone else had baby like this? What did you do? Did they get better? Are they good toddlers? I'm concerned that maybe this is only beginning of having a child with high needs (all the males on my Dad's side have / had behavioural issues).

It's like I wrote this blog. My baby girl ALWAYS cries to put her down to sleep. Read the book 'save our sleep'. Best book ever. Nothing wrong with controlled crying. Go in every 20 mins for cuddles then put him down. No eye contact or anything. Have him sleep in the other room so you and husband can get piece while monitoring his cries. It's working for me. My bub takes 35 mins of controlled crying before it's was 1 hours cries. Get the book. Good luck. Hugs and kisses xoxo

My son was the same, I had to hold him for all his day naps until he was around 8 months old, he would also only sleep for around 45mins (3 naps a day) he would wake up to 6 times a night too. But as he got older I slowly noticed that he was getting better and the naps were getting longer. Now at 13 months he has slept through the night a few times but still occasionally wakes once and he has 1 3 hour sleep everyday. It definitely gets better. I always said to myself after a bad night, im one day closer to a better sleeper

My son woke up every hour through the night for 11 months and was a horrible day sleeper. He would scream and cry if anyone else had him including his father. It was very exhausting and one night i just let him cry and he took 5 minutes to fall asleep. The next night i rocked him while i sang twinkle twinkle then put him down and walked out. He cried for 3 minutes then went to sleep and has been a great sleeper ever since. He has just turned 3 and although he is a bit sensitive he has been a great toddler. My third still wakes twice a night but not every night. He will not cry it out at all. But eventually he will sleep to so atm i don't mind. Good luck and hang in there :-)

Talk to your gp about getting into a sleep school.

My boy was the same, he settled after seeing a private sleep consult. But when he was 14 months we found out he had sleep apnea, which then got me thinking was this the issue all along? You could try listening to her breathing when asleep to see if she has breathing issues
